2011: The Lost Year

Late 2010 brought the unfortunate, perhaps inevitable, death of our blog SCUBAbackpackers.com. Our adventure across Southeast Asia was already changing when we arrived in Komodo, Indonesia to become divemasters. Learning to guide in the underwater paradise of Komodo National Park meant staying in one place for a while. As we completed our course and employed there we lapsed into routine. The weeks gave way to months, and though we remained in one of the most remote parts of the world, we were no longer nomads.

Three quarters of a year passed.  The luster of our lives didn’t fade. In fact our enjoyment grew, astride with our increasing familiarity and proficiency. What did fade was our desire to distill appealing stories from the same mix of elements. Our digital voices fell silent.

Much has happened since then. We left Indonesia to make a home in Melbourne, Australia. That too has run its course. Two months ago we started a new journey, one that has brought us to the bottom of the earth, and back again. 2012 brings a new adventure, a new blog, and a renewed vigor for discovering the new.

We’ll write as long as we can in the hope that you enjoy this blog and maybe find it useful if the travel bug pulls you in a similar direction. We love receiving your comments so please speak freely – we are listening.
