Destination Tasmania

Our plan to go to Tasmania was hashed spontaneously over a Thai food dinner and two rounds of drinks.  We were with our friend Dan Benyon when his girlfriend Ally Kalls came to meet us, or rather collect him. She was exhausted after a long shift but her eyes still lit up when she realized we were talking about this fascinating island. Within 20 minutes a loose itinerary materialized. I wondered if our enthusiasm would survive the delicious intoxication of our cocktails, but within 24 hours the tickets were booked.

Tasmania is a wild place. Located in the roaring 40’s of Southern Hemisphere it enjoys some of the harshest weather on the planet. The land supports very few viable food sources and the island is home to a staggering number of poisonous creatures. Yet for all its threat the island is irresistibly beautiful . Tasmania seduced us before we arrived and had us around its little finger before we left.
